Hogryder,
The whole process is really quite simple. I got an old Harley seat from a motorcycle salvage yard. The seat was very similar to the size and shape of my Savage seat. I used a small flathead screw driver to take the staples out of the Harley cover and removed it from the shell. There is lovely padding on the Harley seat, but it is glued down lightly, but can be carefully and gently peeled off ( I used an exacto knife to keep from tearing the thin foam when I came to a stubborn spot ) Next, I laid the cover I had taken from the Harley seat on the floor ( underside facing up ) and placed my Savage seat on top of it , ( I had removed my seat from my bike ) underside facing up . Leaving myself PLENTY of over-lap I cut a pattern out of the Harley cover that matched my seats shape. To get it all put togather here's what I did next.

1. Lay the cut out HD seat cover on the floor with the underside facing up.
2. Place the foam on top of it ( I used 2 layers of foam for a softer feel ).
3. Place your Savage seat on top of the foam ( underside facing up ).
4. Now, evenly stretch the HD cover over the whole mess and staple it onto the plastic shell of the Savage seat. When you are stretchig the HD cover it is best to go from one side to the other ie. staple a spot on the right side and then go across to the left side and staple a spot, this will give you a very smooth and even finished appearence.
5. Final step...put your new and 'Oh, so comfortable' seat back on your Savage.

The whole process took me about two hours to complete. I saved myself a good bit of money and have a seat that not only looks great but is completely comfortable. I hope this helps, I know how darn tired my fanny got trying to enjoy myself on the factory seat.
Good Luck and Happy Projecting,
Susan
